Dr. Nada G. Abou-Fayssal, MD, FAAN, is a Clinical Professor of Neurology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and serves as Associate Chief of the Department of Neurology at NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn. She also directs the Multiple Sclerosis Center and oversees the Neurology Residency Program as Site Director for the Brooklyn track. In her vascular neurology practice, she manages acute stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and spinal demyelinating disorders, offering inpatient neurocritical care and longitudinal outpatient management for patients with multiple sclerosis. With over 34 years of experience, she is recognized for evidence-based, compassionate care and is a key consultant across NYU Langone Health’s network.

Dr. Abou-Fayssal earned her medical degree in 1991 from Saint Joseph’s University Faculty of Medicine before completing her neurology residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1998. She is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurology (2001) and in Vascular Neurology (2005), reflecting her rigorous training and dedication to the highest standards of neurological care. As a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, she maintains active engagement in professional development and standards-setting organizations that shape the future of neurology practice.

A dedicated educator and clinician-investigator, Dr. Abou-Fayssal pioneers training innovations as Residency Program Director and Site Director of the Brooklyn track. She co-authored the 2024 Neurology Education publication “Curriculum Innovation: A Standardized Experiential Simulation Curriculum Equips Residents to Face the Challenges of Chief Year,” exemplifying her commitment to simulation-based experiential learning. She mentors residents and fellows, chairs curriculum committees, and frequently speaks at the American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting on topics ranging from neurovascular critical care to educational methodologies. In recognition of her contributions, she received the A.B. Baker Teacher Recognition Award from the AAN, highlighting her impact as a mentor and educator American Academy of NeurologyAAN.

Her research portfolio includes seminal publications in high-impact journals: a 2021 Neurology article “A Prospective Study of Neurologic Disorders in Hospitalized Patients With COVID-19 in New York City” and a 2020 Neurology: Neuroimmunology and NeuroInflammation paper on COVID-19 outcomes in multiple sclerosis, underscoring her leadership at the intersection of neuroimmunology and infectious disease. These studies have informed clinical protocols for managing neurologic complications of COVID-19 and shaped best practices in MS care.

In addition to her clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Abou-Fayssal is actively involved in clinical research trials at the Multiple Sclerosis Center, collaborating with immunology, neuroradiology, and rehabilitation specialists to advance therapeutic options.
