Cefsulodin Sodium; Uses, Dosage, Side effects, Interactions

Cefsulodin Sodium is the sodium salt form of cefsulodin, a semi-synthetic, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a narrow spectrum of activity. Cefsulodin sodium is a pyridinium-substituted semisynthetic, broad-spectrum antibacterial used especially for Pseudomonas infections in debilitated patients. Cefsulodin has activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus but little activity against other bacteria. Cefsulodin is most commonly used in cefsulodin-irgasan-novobiocin agar to select for Yersinia microorganisms. This agar is most often used in water and beverage testing.

Mechanism of action of Cefsulodin Sodium

The bactericidal activity of cefsulodin results from the inhibition of cell wall synthesis via affinity for penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Cefsulodin highly resistant to a broad spectrum of beta-lactamases and is active against a wide range of both aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative organisms. Cefsulodin sodium is the sodium salt form of cefsulodin, a semi-synthetic, third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic with a narrow spectrum of activity. Cefsulodin has activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus but little activity against other bacteria.
