Looking at Photoshop’s Fundamentals
You can use Photoshop to create all manner of raster images from photos to diagrams and vector graphics to movie clips. You can even use it to manipulate text, audio, and video to some degree. You can add illustrations and effects to photos, create design templates, and even produce electronic books.
You can use Photoshop to do all of this directly on your computer with applications that are completely compatible with the program or with artboards created in Adobe InDesign. However, you can also use these programs to help you in your work in Photoshop.

Efficient Editing Tools
Photoshop Elements has all of the standard tools for image editing as well as many additional tools to make the user experience more efficient.
Layers allow you to edit images in easy to use steps. You can apply one effect or a combination of effects to layers. You can apply effects to the entire image or you can apply them to parts of the image through masking.
Masking allows you to select an area of an image and replace the selected area with other information or with a different image. You can mask parts of images, replace parts of images and replace the entire image. You can apply images to a layer as a mask, make a selection of an image and place it over a layer as a mask, or merge several layers together using a mask.
The White Balance tool allows you to change the white balance of a picture through the four primary white balance adjustments. The four white balance adjustments include auto, incandescent, tungsten, and fluorescent. You can apply a single white balance adjustment to a picture or you can group multiple white balance adjustments and apply them to a picture.
The Color tool allows you to adjust the overall color of an image or to adjust the color of selected areas of a picture. You can change the brightness or the saturation of the entire image or of the entire image except a specific selection.
The Color Profile tool allows you to change the color profile of a photo. You can apply a color profile to the entire photo, or you can add color profiles to a selection, directly on a layer, or on a mask. You can apply a different color profile to a selection, on a layer, or on a mask.
The Adjustment Layers tool lets you apply multiple adjustments at the same time. You can apply up to twenty adjustments at once. In addition to applying adjustments to a single layer, you can apply adjustments to the entire image.
The Adjustment Brush tool lets you apply adjustments directly to a selection, to a group of selected areas, or to the entire image. You can also copy and paste adjustments.
The Liquify tool allows you to change the way an image is displayed in the Photo Editor by smoothing, distorting, or warping the image.

[Animal models of myocardial dysfunction in myocardial ischemia and reperfusion].
In laboratory animals, the heart is vulnerable to ischemic and reperfusion injury. The most pertinent areas of the cardiovascular system affected by ischemia and reperfusion are the heart and coronary arteries. During ischemia, the loss of blood and oxygen supply to the heart produces severe damage and eventual cell death. During reperfusion, the previously ischemic myocardium reacts to the restoration of blood flow. The ischemic myocardium does not produce oxygen, resulting in further tissue damage, while the reperfused tissue undergoes a cycle of ischemic and reperfusion, producing a continuous injury. During ischemia, the metabolic reduction in the cardiomyocytes affects the transmembrane ion balance, causing membrane depolarization and increasing the intracellular concentration of potassium ions. These are the main factors that regulate the cardiac electrical activity. During reperfusion, the ion influx into the cardiomyocytes reopens the potassium channels and causes repolarization. The increase in sodium concentration alters the myocardial cellular homeostasis, producing calcium overload and necrosis. The reperfused myocardium becomes hyperactive as a response to the supply of oxygen and continues to release reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory cytokines, which cause additional damage to the surrounding tissue. Thus, the reperfused heart is subject to two main deleterious factors: ischemia and reperfusion injury, producing cell death and tissue damage. Pathophysiology of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion has been studied for many years. On the other hand, only recently have these investigations been performed in experimental models. The present invention generally relates to a method of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea and other conditions.
A number of medical and surgical treatments have been proposed for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). One such treatment involves the use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) system. CPAP systems generally consist of a relatively large box-shaped unit which is placed under the patient’s mattress. The system includes an air blower with a hose or other connecting element which delivers a stream of air at positive pressure to a facemask which is held in place by straps and/or a harness.
CPAP has been found to be an effective therapy for OSA, but cannot be used by certain patients. One such patient is the patient who has a normal respiratory tract, but for whom the pharynx collapses during sleep. If CPAP were applied to this patient, it would pressurize the patients’ lungs and prevent him from breathing. A common treatment for this condition is the use of a tongue retaining device. Tongue retaining devices essentially force the patient’s tongue away from the back of the throat and effectively keep the pharynx open.
A number of tongue retaining devices have been proposed, including surgically-implanted, expandable devices such as the tongue piercing tongue depressor described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,176,692 to Stanger (1991) and the tongue retaining device described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,040,531 to Belmont (1991). Another tongue retaining device is the dental xe2x80x9cO-ringxe2x80x9d described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,790,319 to Giamberardino (1988). One device which is more popular with some patients is the Halsted X-Frame, available from Intermedics Medizin Tech, Inc. of Murrieta, Calif. The Halsted frame consists of a pair of padded bars which attach to the outside of the patient””s upper and lower front teeth and which has its middle portion flexibly attached to a strap which is wrapped around the back of the patient””s head.
